Class 4
Welcome to Class Four
Hello and welcome to Class Four’s page, here is our class scripture quote-
.
Here you will find some information about our weekly routines and homework. As well as this, you will find some information about our Autumn topic- Lost! Regular updates and photographs will be shared with parents using the SeeSaw app so if you are not able to access this please just contact me. My email is taylor@lea-st-marys.lancs.sch.uk.
Lost!
Our topic in Autumn 1 is Lost! We will be learning all about the Americas and the Amazon Rainforest. Our Class novel ‘Journey to the river sea’ by Eva Ibbotson will be studied in our English lessons where we will create our own novels set in a contrasting culture. In Geography, we will study about the Amazing Americas and the features of the rainforests. In PE we will be swimming on Tuesdays and learning about invasion style games on Thursdays. In science we will learn about evolution and inheritance including the life cycles of many plants and animals. In Art we will be studying the artist Henri Rousseau and creating pieces inspired by his work.
Our RE topic is creation. Children will learn, through studying scripture, how God made the world for us to care for. We will study examples of people who demonstrate good stewardship of creation and discuss how we can follow their example. All parents should have received a letter detailing the new RE curriculum starting this academic year. If you haven’t please just ask me.
Homework in Class Four
-
- Reading – children are expected to read five times a week for at least 20 minutes. Some reading should be independent, however it is important that the children continue to share their reading experiences with adults too. Reading books will be swapped on Mondays. If children finish their books additional e-books can be found on the following website. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/login?active-tab=students You can select reading for your colour band by selecting the book band option or you can select reading choices for your age group. You will need to login using our class username and password. Username- smlt3 Password MrTaylor(Please note the password has no spaces and a capital letter for M and T)
-
- Spellings– new spellings are given out weekly, on a Monday and tested on the following Monday. We are always encouraged to learn the spelling rule and not a list of words. Spelling lists will be taken home on Mondays but will also be posted on the Seesaw app.
-
- Maths – Children are actively encouraged to improve their knowledge and speed when calculating mentally. They should regularly use TT Rockstars – for which all children have logins and free to use apps or games including ‘Hit the button’ and ‘Daily Ten’. There are also a wealth of maths games on purple mash (please contact me if your child does not know their login). A short burst of daily practice will make a huge different to your children’s understanding and fluency.
-
- Homework – On Friday your child will be set an English and a Maths piece of homework. We ask that this homework is completed for the following Friday. Please encourage your children to have a growth mindset by thinking- what do I know, what can I do next- rather than- I can’t do this! We always go through answers on Friday together. If your child is finding something tricky please contact me.
-
- Purple Mash- Every pupil has a login to purple mash to assist them in their learning. There are a range of activities they can complete such as the maths games signposted above. Please contact Mr Taylor if your child is unsure of their log in details. The website link is below.

- Times Table Rockstars- All children have a unique login to Times Tables Rockstars. This is a fantastic website which really helps to speed up children’s recall of multiplication tables. Please find the link below.
